They Lord, Y'all

This dating thing gets more interesting...or creepy, as time goes on.

Contacted today by the N'awlins person I had coffee with a few months ago.
One time.
Coffee.
Daytime coffee.

He wanted to know if I would be, if I didn't already have such a friend, his f__k buddy. (Anon CP's brother suggested I reply "You know I'm a man, right?" LOL!)

What in the world possesses someone you had coffee with ONCE to ask you that?! It's quite a leap.

Another Southern boy (SC) called me Monday to tell me a "funny family story" involving masturbation and a 65 year old aunt.

Honey, in my part of the South, we call that child abuse. (See Florida darlin'? You don't have all the weird.)

Then a friend pointed out that maybe that never happened, but perhaps there was a fantasy element involved. And me being a bit older than  him... oh my god. So creepy.

I have higher expectations for Southern boys and they are disappointing me mightily this week.

The one that's behaving most chivalrously at the moment is the Mark Ruffalo look alike.
A damn Yankee.
Go figure.

Where are the normal people?!

This post BEGS for some music, but I am stumped.

The Latest Scoop

Because I KNOW you all live vicariously through me...

"The Lego Movie" = total fun. And how the heck did they film that?! Amazing.

Enjoying the "Circles" album by Mike Doughty. Formerly of Soul Coughing. "El Oso" is one of those CDs I never get tired of. Like Neil Finn's "Try Whistling This".

Saw this necklace (Sticks Together) by Erika Strum last weekend in the Eno Gallery in Hillsborough; sat in the car for twenty minutes trying to talk myself out of it.

Don't need it... Don't need it... Don't need it...Okay, just go try it on.
Maybe it will look bad and you can walk away. Such a cunning plan I had!

Then she told me it was reversible. Ergh.

It makes a lovely tinkling noise, like a little wind chime at my neck. And it's ART dammit.

Speaking of art - I L.O.V.E. the marsh paintings by Jacob Cooley. I can practically smell the brine.

Really like the paintings by Larry Gray too. They are so much more evocative in person. Could look at them forever.

My Durham skyline necklace by Metamorphosis Metals is finally complete! Major the Bull added today at Vespertine.

Also bought this adorable Bitchy Resting Face bird print:

Enough of art. (As if.)

Now on to the world of dating.

Had a very nice date Wednesday night. Funny, nice looking (like a white haired Mark Ruffalo), proper usage of both English and utensils. Two sweet kisses on the lips at the end. Text yesterday that he would be back in town in a couple of weeks and we'd do it again. Well okay then. Just remember those cowboy boots, Mister.

On the same topic:
A "friend" had an interesting dating experience recently...
It's Date #2. While driving/showing him around town (he's from another city in NC), a hand was laid on the thigh while driving, sans permission (if it's not obvious, he was the hand layer). Later he went in for a kiss, not once, but twice, calling for the cheek deflect move. There were more dating crimes, but these were the most egregious.

She politely explained the lack of spark in an email, but now he is begging for forgiveness, to the tune of four to five groveling emails. My "friend" is torn between salvaging a friendship (same profession), or cutting her losses.

What say you readers?
Line crossed, no going back? Will he take forgiveness as a sign of hope? Will she be fighting him off for the remainder if she does extend the olive branch? Or should she stick to the initial lack of spark email and call it a day (meaning, don't respond to any of his groveling)?

Y'all have a good week, free from hand layers...unless of course, you want that.

The End of An Era and Other Random Things

Has it really been a MONTH since I last posted? How in the WORLD?!

I threw the steam cleaner in the garbage.
It had been acting flaky the last few times I used it. Sunday, after the third time the water went straight through it into a puddle on the floor, I said screw it and tossed it in the garbage. I got my $150 out of it over the past three years. I am looking for a less expensive option this go round.

What else? We went through another Barbell Club coach; apparently we are hell on coaches. Or rather, they start coaching us and realize what they REALLY want to do with their lives. Heh.

Dating. That's still happening. I had a date at a Waffle House a few weeks ago. Whoo! The caliber of people I attract. That person didn't work out (because he didn't find me "romantic". I chalked that comment up to ironic.), but a Burlington Coat Factory was right there and I got a new raincoat, so win! for me. An aside to men out there - don't come on a date and talk about how all women lie. WTF dude.
My dating mantra: IT'S NOT ME, IT'S YOU. Yep.

It's snowing right now.
Because it started snowing at around 6:30 PM, local schools had an early release this morning. That's right - this morning. Oodles of hours before it started snowing.
North Carolina, the Chicken Little of the South.

What else? I saw this amazing poster on the back of the bathroom door at Fiction Kitchen in Raleigh Saturday night. 1957, Roger Corman. Of course.

There's more, but I'm tired and you're probably bored, so that's all for now.

The Picts

Pict, (possibly from Latin picti, “painted”), one of an ancient people who lived in what is now eastern and northeastern Scotland, from Caithness to Fife. Their name may refer to their custom of body painting or possibly tattooing.

These are my people.

Monday I got a new tattoo from the lovely and talented Kathryn Moore at Dogstar. (That's what Christmas bonuses are for, right?)

The design was based on this obelisk, which we think is Scandinavian as the knot work is much less formal and more free form than Celtic knot work. You can see where it starts and ends, also not the case with Celtic knot work.

She came up with this:
The stencil is applied.

Just about a week later, it's mostly healed.
The OSD was oddly upset I didn't consult with him; that I hadn't at least commented that I was doing it. Seems saying there will be more was not enough of a warning.

I won't tell you the questions I asked him as qualifiers for having input into what I do with my own body (well okay, one of them was "are you my father?" Another was "do you sign my paycheck?" There was a third, which I will leave to your imagination.).
Kinda funny that an old sailor doesn't have a single tattoo. But then, come to think of it, neither did my father, and he was an old, old sailor.
I informed OSD that I am a Pictish Scandinavian princess and I am having tattoos.

I think I'm done now, but The Boy reminded me that I said that after the Raven tattoo. So...maybe not.

Consider this your consult, "Mr. Baardsson".

It's Hard to Wave Goodbye with T-Rex Arms

Thursday night was Paul's last night as Barbell Club coach. The regulars, most of us, took him out for a beer afterward. We are going to miss you so much Paul, in spite of you causing us pain twice a week.

Best of luck in your new job. And thanks for believing in me. In all of us.

Don't let this innocent, adorable face fool you. He is brutal.
Ryan, Keith, and Paul

Winter, Almost

Winter, almost
And the texture is of bare brown and white
After heavy verdant of summer
Room for skies of spare blue
And the crimson cardinal flash

JUNIP

Line Of Fire

What would you do
if it all came back to you?
Each crest of each wave
bright as lightning

What would you say
if you had to leave today?
leave everything behind
even though for once, you're shining

Standing on higher ground
when you hear the sounds
you realize it's just the wind
And you notice it matters
who and what you let under your skin

Put to the test
would you step back from the line of fire?
Hold everything back
all emotions set aside it

Convince yourself
someone else
and fight from the world
your lack of confidence.
What you choose to believe in
takes you much too far
takes you much too far

No one else around you
no one to understand you
no one to hear your calls.
Look through all your dark corners
you're backed up against the wall
step back from the line of fire

What would you do
if it all came back to you?
each crest of each wave
bright as the lightning
do the same as you do
do the same as you do
do the same as you
do the same as you

I do the same as you,
Do the same as you
do the same as you do
What you choose to believe in
takes you much too far

No one else around you
no one to understand you
no one to hear your calls.
Look through all your dark corners
you're backed up against the wall
Step back from the line of fire
Step back from the line of fire
Step back from the line of fire
Step back from the line of fire
Step back from the line of fire
Step back from the line of fire
Step back from the line of fire
Step back from the line of fire

Step back
Step back
Step back

Sloth

Full blown slothfulness has permeated to my very core. It's all I can do to write this.

Anyway...
It's gray and cold and wet outside.

Anyway...
Last night several of us went out - after 8:00 PM! It was downright European. A couple of Barbell Clubbers were participating in the amateur drag queen competition at The Pinhook in downtown Durham and we went to lend our support. It was Nova's first public appearance - she was great.
Vivian Vaughn, one of our favorite Drag Bingo queens, came (as a boy) with his partner. And with a little help from some 5000 mg B12, we managed to stay out until after 1 AM.

But today, we are one with the sloth.

"Hey, I said no pictures!" Keith from Barbell Club

Nova Gina, a.k.a. Ryan
Anyway...
The Boy had snow on Thursday. It was 78 degrees here.
Lincoln City, Oregon 12/5/13
Anyway...
I dead lifted 200 pounds Thursday night. 200! That is the power of a good coach; they believe you can do it, so you do too. Then you do something you would not have thought possible even one month ago.
Did I tell you Paul was leaving? 'Tis true. This coming Thursday will be his last day. I am quite sad about that. We're taking him out for a beer after class.

Anyway...
I have tortured you enough.
